The OnePlus Red Cable Tour finals held at the Sir Mutha Venkatasubba Rao Concert Hall, Lady Andal School, in Chennai on October 13th 2019 presented a fresh crop of exciting new musicians. The finals were the culmination of a statewide search for the best new talent in Tamil Nadu, which yielded hundreds of registrations. Selected bands competed at preliminary rounds at Hindustan Institute of Technology & Science and Patrician College of Arts & Science, with a total of 20 finalists in four categories making it to the last round.
The finalists performed to a packed auditorium and a panel of four celebrity judges from the Indian music industry – Shakthisree Gopalan, Vijay Prakash, Amitash Pradhan and Sean Roldan. Ms. Gopalan also presented a special showcase at the end of the event, singing some of her most beloved hits from Kollywood films. The event was hosted by popular emcee RJ Syed.
What set the OnePlus Red Cable Tour apart from other music competitions was its focus on discovering original work from across the state in four distinct and unusual categories: Rap & Hip Hop, Rock & Metal, Light Music and Acoustic & A Cappella. The finalists in the Rap & Hip Hop category were Devoid, Yuvaraj on the Floor, Asal Kolaar, Voltage B and Dacalty, with Yuvraj on the Floor taking home the top prize. Devoid was in 2nd Place. The finalists in the Rock & Metal category were The SyZyGy, Jigarthanda, BigSAM, Fobia Deimos and Masal Vada, with The SyZyGy taking home the top prize. Masal Vada was in 2nd Place. The finalists in the Light Music category were Karnautic, Siennor, Narumugai, Theepetti and Madras Music Factory, with Karnautic taking home the top prize. Theepetti was in 2nd Place The finalists in the Acoustic & A Cappella category were Gautam and Krsna, Blurple, Organised Chaos, Nitika and Troy and Perfect Fifths, with Gautham and Krsna taking home the top prize. Organized Chaos was in 2nd place.
Participants competed for the chance to open at an international musical festival, nationwide performances and cash prizes.
The OnePlus Red Cable Tour was held in conjunction with the launch of the new 7T smartphone in India, ahead of a global rollout.
