President Droupadi Murmu’s address to the joint sitting of both the Houses of Parliament was tabled in the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha this afternoon.
Minutes after the President’s address, the two houses assembled and the copy of the speech was laid in both the Houses.
In the Lok Sabha, the Speaker, Om Birla, highlighted the contribution of Dr Manmohan Singh to the development of the country. The Speaker said that the death of Dr Singh has created a void in the country which is hard to fill. The House also adopted a resolution to be conveyed as sentiments of the MPs to the family of the former Prime Minister.
Mr Birla also recalled the contributions of five other members. Later, the Economic Survey 2024-25 was tabled in the House by the Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman and the house was adjourned for the day.
In the Rajya Sabha, the Upper House also paid tributes to the former Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh former Chief Minister of Haryana, Om Prakash Chautala and three other former members, who passed away recently.
The economic Survey was also tabled in the upper House after which it was adjourned for the day. Earlier the two Houses also paid tributes to former President of the United States of America James Earl Carter Jr.
