Premature, unrealistic to think COVID-19 pandemic might be stopped by end of year: WHO

Dr. Michael Ryan, director of WHO’s emergencies program yesterday said that it was premature and unrealistic to think the pandemic might be stopped by the end of the year.

Right now the world’s singular focus should be to keep transmission of COVID-19 as low as possible. He also said that many of the licensed vaccines appear to be helping curb the virus’ explosive spread. He further added that right now the virus is very much in control.  He also mentioned that for the first time in seven weeks, the number of COVID-19 cases have spiked last week, after six consecutive weeks of declining numbers.
