Prime Minister Narendra Modi will commission the first indigenously designed and built aircraft carrier as INS Vikrant at Cochin Shipyard Limited in Kochi on Friday morning. Designed by Indian Navy’s in-house Warship Design Bureau and built by Cochin Shipyard Limited, INS Vikrant has been built with with the state of the art automation features and is the largest ship ever built in maritime history of India. With the commissioning of Vikrant, India will have two operational Aircraft Carriers, which will bolster the maritime security of the nation. During the event, Mr Modi will also unveil the new Naval Ensign (Nishaan), doing away with the colonial past and befitting the rich Indian maritime heritage.
Thereafter at 1:30 PM, Prime Minister will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of projects worth around 3,800 crore rupees in Mangaluru. AIR correspondent reports that Prime Minister will lay the Foundation stone for the Integrated Liquid Petroleum Gas and bulk Liquid Petroleum, oil and Lubricant facility at Mangaluru Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited, the . Foundation will also be laid for the storage tanks and edible oil refinery, bitumen storage and allied facilities. He will later dedicate to the nation BS VI upgradation project and Sea Water Desalination plant of Mangaluru Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited. He will also lay the foundation stone for a fishing harbour at Kulai.
