PM Modi to inaugurate world’s highest Chenab railway arch bridge in J&K

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Jammu and Kashmir today and lay the foundation stone, inaugurating and dedicating multiple development projects worth over 46 thousand crore rupees to the nation at Katra. As part of it, Prime Minister Modi will dedicate the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project to the nation. The 272-kilometre USBRL project has been constructed at a cost of around 44 thousand crore rupees. The USBRL project is a fully electrified section and comprises 36 tunnels and 943 bridges. The Chenab Bridge, the world’s highest railway arch bridge and India’s first cable-stayed rail bridge – Anji Khad Bridge, which are part of the USBRL, will also be inaugurated by the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister will also flag off two Vande Bharat Express trains – one from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra to Srinagar and the other from Srinagar to Katra. However, the regular services of Vande Bharat trains between Katra and Srinagar will commence from Saturday.

“The Rail link project establishes all-weather, seamless rail connectivity between the Kashmir Valley and the rest of the country, aiming to transform regional mobility and drive socio-economic integration. These Vande Bharat trains to be introduced between Katra to Srinagar have been designed with special technical features to facilitate smooth travel in the challenging climatic conditions of the Kashmir valley. The Vande Bharat is equipped with silicone heating pads and a heating plumbing pipeline, which prevents water from freezing even at temperatures below zero degrees. With the introduction of this train service, the travel time between Katra to Srinagar will be significantly reduced by nearly three hours. With modern amenities and climate-specific adaptations, this train will offer passengers a superior travel experience Anand Kumar for Akashvani News Delhi.”

Besides, in a major boost to last-mile connectivity, especially in border areas, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone and inaugurate various road projects. The Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Institute of Medical Excellence in Katra, worth over 350 crore rupees. It will be the first medical college in the Reasi district, contributing substantially to the healthcare infrastructure in the region.
