Prime Minister Narendra Modi performed the last rights of his mother Heeraben Modi in Gandhinagar on Friday morning. He consigned the mortal remains of his mother to fire along with his brothers. Heeraben Modi passed away at around 3.30 am at a hospital in Ahmedabad.
After the death of Heeraben at the age of 100, PM Modi reached the house of his younger brother Pankaj Modi in Raisan, Gandhinagar and had the last darshan of his mother. From there, the body of Heeraba was taken to the crematorium in Sector 30 of Gandhinagar.
Earlier, Heeraba was admitted to UN Mehta Hospital on Tuesday after her health deteriorated. Here a team of 6 specialist doctors was continuously monitoring his health. The hospital’s medical bulletin on Thursday spoke of improvement in her health.
Remembering her, PM Modi wrote an emotional message, ‘In mother, I have always felt the trinity that includes the journey of an ascetic, the symbol of a selfless karma yogi and a life committed to values.’ Sharing the message, he wrote, ‘This glorious century ends at the feet of God. When he met her on 100th birthday, she had said, ‘Work with intelligence and live life with purity.’
Condoling the demise of Prime Minister Modi’s mother, President Draupadi Murmu said – ‘Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mother Heeraba’s 100 years of struggle is a symbol of Indian ideals. Modi inculcated the spirit of Matridevobhav’ and the values of Heeraba in his life. I pray for the peace of the holy soul. My condolences to the family!’
Union ministers, leaders of various political parties, chief ministers of states and a number of leaders from across the globe, have expressed condolences on the demise of Prime Minister Modi’s mother. Union Minister Rajnath Singh said that the death of a mother leaves such a void in one’s life it is impossible to fill. He expresses condolences to the Prime Minister and his family in this hour of grief.
Home Minister Amit Shah said that a mother is the first friend and teacher in a person’s life, whose loss is undoubtedly the biggest sorrow in the world. The struggles Heeraba faced to raise a family, make her a role model for all. Her sacrificial ascetic life will always be in our memory. The entire nation stands with the Prime Minister’s family in this hour of grief.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said that the country has got a leader like Narendra Bhai because of the values Heeraba ji gave to his family while living a very difficult and struggling life. Very simple and loving, his image will always be remembered. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said that a mother nourishes a person’s life with values. Heeraba’s virtuous life is an inspiration for all of us.
Expressing condolences, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge said he was extremely saddened to hear the news and offered his condolences to the Prime Minister and his family.
