The performance of the banking system improved as Non-Performing Asset, NPA ratios declined and credit growth accelerated. However, financial flows to the economy remained constrained because of decline in the amount of equity finance raised from capital markets and stress in Non-Banking Financial Companies Sector.
The Economic Survey 2018-19 states that the currency in circulation increased by 22.6 per cent in the last financial year.
The Survey says that the performance of the banking sector, Public Sector banks in particular, improved in 2018-19. The Gross NPA ratio of Scheduled Commercial Banks decreased from 11.5 per cent to 10.1 per cent between March 2018 and December 2018.
