Passengers write to US President Donald Trump for train halt at Palam station, as their plea falls deaf ears at home

New Delhi: While the president of the United States, Donald Trump, strives day and night to make America great, there is a group of Indians who think he can do greater things for them. Like making a train named after a superfast, historic steed, halt at their railway station.

To put it simply, a railway passengers’ association has written to Trump, requesting him to use his good offices to ensure that the Chetak Express makes a two-minute stop at Palam railway station near New Delhi. Before the nationalist bandwagon begins screaming about washing family laundry in public, to their credit, the passenger association has written to the railways minister Piyush Goyal, Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, but by all indications, its pleas seem to have fallen by the railway tracks.

The association could have knocked on the doors of justice, but apparently decided that ‘train’ was too overcrowded to burden it with more. So, they decided to approach Trump and, solicitously keeping in mind his busy schedule, a representative of the association shot off a crisp tweet to him:

@realDonaldTrump “Sir, Bharat mein Dilli Rewari route Palam railway station aata hai iss station par Chetak Express (12981-12982) ka thehrav nahin hua hai rail mantri aur railway adhikari ko bhi kaafi likha hai ek baar rail mantri ko likhein shaayad kuchh ho jaaye (Sir, In Bharat, Palam railway station falls on the Dilli Rewari route but Chetak Express does not halt here. Have written to the railways minister, railway officials. A letter (from Trump) to the railways minister may achieve the desired result) Balkrishna Amarsariya, Dilli, Bharat.

The tweet is in Hindi but translation should not be a problem. The 3.9million- strong Indian diaspora in the US would be only too glad to help. The train runs between Delhi and Rajasthan but because this halt is not available, people are forced to travel to distant stations to catch the train, as it halts at Khatushyam, a place of worship.
