Heavy rain lashed most parts of South Gujarat during the last 24 hours.
According to an official release, Southernmost taluka, Umergam received over 9 inches rain today. Waterlogging has been reported in many parts of Valsad district, creating a flood-like situation.
Industrial town Vapi, Kaprada and Khergam in neighbouring Navsari district received over four inches of rain.
Due to heavy rain in upstream areas, the river Damanganga continues to be on spate for the second day today. Gates of Madhuban dam have been opened for release of surplus water to downstream areas.
People staying in the low lying villages have been ed.
Though South Gujarat has been witnessing heavy rain for the last one week, Kutch, Saurashtra and North Gujarat are still awaiting monsoon rains.
Some parts of Mumbai and suburbs have also been receiving heavy rain since this morning.
Commuters faced problems as road and rail traffic was affected due to water logging in various low lying areas.
Waterlogging was also reported on Western Express Highway near Andheri subway, putting an additional burden on the Metro rail service. Very heavy rain was witnessed at Dadar, Sion, Vikhroli, Andheri, Goregaon and Mira Road.
Trains on Western line are running delayed whereas trains on Central and Harbour line are running late by 20 to 25 minutes. Operations at the Mumbai airport were suspended briefly in the morning.
Some flights were diverted to nearby airports. However, no flights were cancelled.
Meanwhile, part of a two-storey house collapsed in Govandi area, injuring eight people. The injured, who were admitted to a hospital, were later discharged after treatment.
