The cumulative number of COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in the country has crossed 1 crore 48 lakh 54 thousand today. Nearly 5 lakh 52 thousand people were vaccinated on the first day of the second phase of nationwide vaccination programme, yesterday.
World’s largest vaccination drive which was rolled out on 16th January this year by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare in it’s first phase covered Healthcare professionals and front line workers. In the second phase, which commenced yesterday, people above 60 years of age and those above 45 years with specified co-morbidities are being vaccinated.

Nearly 25 lakh potential beneficiaries registered themselves on the cowin.gov.in portal on the very first day of the second phase of covid-19 vaccination which kick started yesterday. Out of the 25 lakh registrations, nearly 24 lakh 50 thousand were citizens above 60 years of age or those above 45 years with the specified co-morbidities. The remaining 50 thousand registered last day were the Healthcare Workers and Frontline Workers. About 6 lakh 44 thousand appointments for vaccination were booked yesterday in a single day.
Government has urged citizens with age 60 or more as on 1st January of next year including those attaining 45 years or more with pre specified co-morbidities to register themselves on the cowin portal and schedule an appointment for vaccination. Beneficiaries can also get themselves registered at any nearest COVID Vaccination by bringing along any government issued photo ID card with them.
The COVID-19 recovery rate in the country stands at 97.07 per cent today. In the last 24 hours, 12 thousand 464 people have recovered and with this the number of people recovered has gone up to over one crore 7 lakh 98 thousand.
In the last 24 hours, 12 thousand 286 new cases were reported. Total number of reported cases have reached over one crore 11 lakh. The Ministry said, 91 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours.
