Operation Satark puts a check on illegal operations using Railways

Railway Police Force with its recently launched “Operation Satark”, has sent the message to smugglers and gun runners that railways cannot be used to transport illegal items.

Besides “Operation Satark” from April 5 to April 30, putting an all around check on illegal operations, RPF had done remarkable work by saving people’s lives and securing their belongings.

Operation Satark; Relevance

Indian Railways, being the primary transporter of the nation, is likely to be used by tax evaders, smugglers and gun runners, and forces inimical to the nation to transport illegal items to different parts of the country.

“Operation Satark” aims to take action against, transporting any item through railway network for the purpose of tax evasion or smuggling or commission of crime or acts of terror.

Success of Operation Satark

RPF detected 26 cases of transportation of illegal tobacco products from April 5 to April 30. Tobacco products worth more than Rs 44 Lakhs were seized & 14 accused have been arrested.

Operation Satark led to the interception of 177 cases of transportation of illicit liquor, leading to 97 accused getting arrested. RPF intercepted twenty cases of unaccounted cash/gold/silver transportation. The operation seized smuggled items worth about Rs. 3.18 Crores.

RPF nabbed 17 persons for transporting illegal arms and ammunition. RPF detected 23 cases of tax evasion and handed over unaccounted cash/gold/silver worth about Rs 2.60 Crores to the respective tax authorities.

Successful in curbing terror

RPF has possibly thwarted several nefarious designs of terrorists though Operation Satark. RPF has been conducting intensive checks in stations, trains and railway areas under the operation. Through such efforts the Railway force has nabbed 17 accused and recovered contrabands, among them an AK 47 rifle.

RPF; A model for remarkable performance

RPF personnel, risking their own lives, saved 74 persons during the month of March 2022. 178 lives were saved by RPF during the year till March 2022.

Under “Operation Nanhe Farishte”, RPF identify and rescue children who are lost or separated from their family. 5,041 children in need of care & protection who came in contact with Indian Railways were rescued in 2022 till March 31.

There were several incidents of RPF personnel especially mahila RPF personnel, going out of the way to help pregnant women, who go into labour during their train journeys.

RPF retrieved more than 2,000 belongings of passengers, who in a rush to board the train or leave the train/station forgot their belongings.
