The online registration for pilgrims visiting Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur is expected to commence on 20th of this month.
This was stated by Chairman of the Land Port Authority of India and Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs, Govind Mohan, while talking to media in Dera Baba Nanak in Punjab today. He said India and Pakistan are still negotiating on Islamabad’s insistence of charging 20 dollars from each pilgrim. He added that India is trying to convince the neighbouring country not to levy such charges.
Mr Mohan said, the work on the four-lane highway connecting the ‘zero-point’ for onward journey to Pakistan and the state-of-the-art passenger terminal will be completed by the end of this month. He said, Pakistan has deferred the construction but assured that it will complete the work in good time. He said an alternative road is being constructed up to the zero-point due to the unavailability of the bridge and the road on the Pakistan side. Pakistan will provide transport up to the zero-point to pick up pilgrims to their side of the facilitation centre and to drop them back.
Mr Mohan said passport will be the pre-requisite for pilgrims to cross over the border to visit Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur. He said five thousand pilgrims can visit the holy site of the Sikhs every day.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the much-awaited Kartarpur Corridor on 8th next month. Our Correspondent reports that a state-of-the-art passenger terminal with facilitation centre to host government officials responsible for ensuring hassle-free travel of pilgrims, food kiosks, parking areas and security points will also come up by 8th November.
