Farm Bills cleared in Parliament amid massive uproar by Opposition
The Rajya Sabha on Sunday passed the two contentious farm Bills by a voice vote amid massive uproar by the Members of Parliament and protests led by farmers in Punjab and Haryana.
The Farmers’ and Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill, 2020 and Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill, 2020 were cleared in Parliament. The Bills were passed in the Lok Sabha late Thursday night by a voice vote.

After Rajya Sabha passed two farm Bills ensuring marketing freedom to farmers amidst ruckus by the opposition parties, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reiterated that the MSP system will remain and government procurement will continue.
Taking to his Twitter, the PM said: “I said it earlier and I say it once again: System of MSP will remain. Government procurement will continue. We are here to serve our farmers. We will do everything possible to support them and ensure a better life for their coming generations.”

GST compensation row: 21 states prefer option 1, no takers for option 2
As many as 21 states are in favour of option 1 to make up for GST compensation shortfall, under which states will have to borrow Rs97,000 cr at an affordable interest from the RBI under a special window coordinated by Finance Ministry. States like Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Goa, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Odisha, Puducherry, Sikkim, Tripura, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh have conveyed to they centre that they prefer to opt for borrowing under option one opposed by the GST council to meet their compensation shortfall.
