Madhya Pradesh: Is Vande Mataram Communal for Congress?

The previous government under Shivraj Singh Chouhan had ordered that Vande Mataram be sung in Mantralaya pr Secretariat on the 1st of every month. But the newly formed Congress Government under Kamal Nath failed to sing Vande Mataram in the Mantralaya or Secretariat on January 1st 2019, on the very first of a New Year itself.

However, Minister PC Sharma, speaking on the issue, said that “Vande Matram belongs to both Congress and country. There’s no question of not singing it, we’ll find the reason & correct it”.

The controversy over the singing of Vande Mataram is not new. In May last year, there was a nationwide controversy after the management of Dyal Singh College had renamed the college as “Vande Mataram College”. Union Minister for Food Processing Harsimrat Kaur Badal had said that the decision of the management of Dyal Singh College to rename the college as “Vande Mataram College”, would hurt the sentiments of the Sikh community.
