The NITI Aayog (National Institution for Transforming India) expressed concern tha the uncontrolled celebrations held in Kerala result in increasing number of COVID cases.
NITI health wing member Dr Vinod Kumar Paul recommended that COVID transmission should be traced by performing more RT-PCR tests in Kerala.
About 45 percent of the COVID patients in the country are in Kerala at present. According to the statistics on Thursday, 1,36,549 people are infected with COVID-19 in India. Among them, 61,030 are in Kerala and 38,037 in Maharashtra. About 73 percent of the COVID patients in the country are in Kerala and Maharashtra.
However, COVID death toll remains low in Kerala. A total of 51,591 patients succumbed to COVID in Maharashtra so far. But only 4,016 deaths were reported in Kerala till date. Other states with high death toll are Tamil Nadt – 12,432, Karnataka – 12,273, Delhi – 10,894, West Bengal – 10,235, Uttar Pradesh – 8,704, Andhra Pradesh – 7,163, Punjab – 5,712 and Gujarat – 4,402. |
