By Dr. Sandeep Sadanand Chaugule: On the 1st day of Navaratri I saw a post on social media by an acquaintance saying “Now next 9 days I will see same colored female in the office”

It is seen that many people have started following color-code for each of the day of Navaratri. People dressed in same color are putting their photographs on social media etc…
Question arises is this a tradition? How the colors are decided? And how old is this tradition? Is it related to goddess?
India and by that way Southeast Asia and Indian subcontinent is area of colors. One will see many colors. The tradition of wearing colorful dresses is also a style taken by these residents.
It is not a tradition to wear any specific color on each day of Navaratri, it is a recently developed and followed practice.
According to occult sciences and parallel sciences color therapy is used by Indian and southeast Asian people.
If both are facts then, how one decides the colors to wear on each day of Navaratri? Fact is there is absolutely no connection of each day of Navaratri or the specific goddess worshiped on each day, but it is decided on the day of the week on which each Navaratri day falls.
In Thailand, Cambodia and India, each day of the week is dedicated to specific planet, and each planet has its own most effective color and unlucky color. Based on this the colors are decided. Following is the day of the week, planet it is dedicated to and it’s most favorable and unfavorable color.
Depending on the day of the week the Navaratri day’s color is fixed, there will always be repetition of two days, for those days alternate color is chosen which is just near to the dedicated color of that day. Or some people make their own list of colors.
*Sunday* – Dedicated to: Sun, Favorable color: Red (in Thai and Cambodia) Orange in India
Unfavorable Color: Blue
*Monday* – Dedicated to: Moon, Favorable color: light yellow or cream (in Thai and Cambodia), white in India
Unfavorable Color: Red
*Tuesday* – Dedicated to: Mars, Favorable color: Pink (in Thai and Cambodia), Red in India
Unfavorable Color: Yellow or White
*Wednesday* – Dedicated to: Mercury, Favorable color: Green (in Thai and Cambodia and India)
Unfavorable Color: Pink
*Thursday* – Dedicated to: Jupiter, Favorable color: Orange or Brown (in Thai and Cambodia), Yellow in India
Unfavorable Color: Purple
*Friday* – Dedicated to: Venus, Favorable color: Light Blue (in Thai and Cambodia), Light blue or any light color in India
Unfavorable Color: Dark Blue
*Saturday* – Dedicated to: Saturn, Favorable color: Purple or Black (in Thai and Cambodia), black its shades or dark blue in India
Unfavorable Color: Green
These colors of the day are traditional Thai birthday colors. As King Bhumibol Adulyadej and his son were born on Mondays, Thailand is decorated with yellow on their birthdays. Thai and Cambodians often wear clothes corresponding to the color of the day.
Then why to celebrate colors of the cloths only on Navaratri, let’s celebrate all the colors of life every day.
