Mumbai: A day after Mumbai Monorail service resumed after a gap of almost 10 months on September 1, it came to a standstill on Sunday afternoon due to a technical snag and cable infringement. Result: The monorail was stuck near Chembur for nearly an hour and passengers had to be evacuated.
According to an official, an obstruction was detected in the form of a cable that got entangled in one of the monorail coaches near VN Purav Marg. A few minutes later, the rake came to a halt due to a malfunction in the Automatic Train Protection System. Both incidents happened around 3pm. Fire brigade teams were called in to the site where the monorail had come to a standstill. “The cable had got stuck in one of the coaches. We got to know that it was a TV cable and immediately power supply was stopped,” said the official. The monorail between Chembur and Wadala was discontinued on November 9 when two coaches of the train caught fire.
