MeT department forecasts very heavy rainfall across several districts of Assam till Thursday

In Assam, 444 villages are affected due to flood in 18 districts and 4741 hectares of crop areas have been damaged across the state.

The India Meteorological Department has issued a ‘Red Alert’ and predicted ‘very heavy’ to ‘extremely heavy’ rainfall across several districts of Assam till Thursday.

According to Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), more than 30,000 people are hit due to floods and several embankments, roads, bridges and other infrastructure have been damaged by flood waters in several districts.

State Government has opened 25 Relief camps in flood-affected districts and NDRF and SDRF teams have also been deployed for rescue and relief.

In Sikkim, the IMD has issued an orange rain alert until tomorrow. Light to moderate rain has been predicted very likely across districts in the State till tomorrow, with heavy to very heavy rain in isolated places, and possibilities of landslides, mudslides, flashfloods, damage to standing crops and vulnerable structures, as well as fog and low visibility.
