MeT department forecasts heavy to very heavy rainfall in Mumbai

India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in Mumbai and and its suburbs in the next 24 hours. The weather department has also predicted heavy rainfall at isolated places over South Interior Karnataka, Konkan and Goa this week. It has also forecast heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places in Uttar Pradesh for the next 48 hours. The weatherman said, thunderstorm accompanied with lightening at isolated places is very likely over Jharkhand and Odisha.

In the wake of IMD’s forecast, Mumbai police have urged people to take precautions and ensure safety. AIR correspondent reports, despite the red , life in Mumbai is running normal.Rains have taken a breather in Mumbai, Thane and Palghar districts today after heavy downpour last night. Many areas have been experiencing nice bright and sunny day. However, precautionary measures still remain in place as fishermen have been warned not to venture into sea. It is noteworthy that Mumbai has received 84 percent of its average July rain in the last eight days.  The heavy downpour has been attributed to the cyclonic circulation, because of which isolated heavy rains is likely to occur in the city and suburbs over the next 48 hours. The yesterday’s heavy rains had affected the air, rail and road traffic. A total of 11 flights were cancelled and  three diverted because of poor visibility at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. Meanwhile, a person was injured when a wall collapsed in suburban Andheri while two young boys drowned in an open pit in Mumbai’s neighbouring Kalyan.
