The second wave of coronavirus forces the state government to impose lockdown in order to curb the spread of the disease. But state governments are giving their best to provide aid to the citizens in hard times. The Maharashtra state transport department has started an online portal system to provide financial aid of ₹1,500 to the state’s auto-rickshaw drivers from today. Earlier, in April Maharashtra government announced a ₹107 Cr relief package for the state’s 7.15 lakh auto-rickshaw drivers.
Drivers will receive the amount directly in their bank account
The process has been made in a hassle-free manner that will ease things for the auto-rickshaw drivers. They will be credited with ₹1,500 directly in their bank accounts. For this, they have to register online and the beneficiary must have linked his/her Aadhaar card numbers to the bank account.
The state transport department has partnered with ICICI Bank for the distribution of the relief fund for auto-rickshaw drivers. The Bank has developed a system that includes various details of the drivers, like licence and vehicle numbers. Once the driver is registers and verified, the amount will be credited directly to the driver’s account.
A presentation of how the process will work was given to the representatives of auto-rickshaw driver unions. This is done to ensure that all drivers get the fund and if someone encounters some problem, they can seek help from the representatives.
The Fund will help the auto-rickshaw drivers in the lockdown, as all the commercial activities are on halt and only essential activities are allowed.
