Mumbai: The Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has sent an hidden warning to the Opposition Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and the Congress leaders who are aggressive over the Maratha quota issue and supporting Maratha protesters to file a suit in the court against the BJP government through an affidavit filed in the multi-crore irrigation scam in the Nagpur bench of Bombay High Court on Tuesday.
It was for the first time, the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) has directly indicated Ajit Pawar, then Water Resources Minister and Deputy Chief Minister, involvement. Political observer claimed, Fadnavis has played a perfect political game at a perfect time. Pawar, who was with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government on the first day of the ongoing Winter Session over the Maratha quota issue, who later took a U-turn from the second day.
He had supported government by stating there is no need to table the report of the Backward Class Commission in the House as once it will reveal, someone will challenge it in the court. Sources from the BJP said, “The government need support from the Opposition party leaders to pass the bill. However, we have marked, NCP and Congress supporter Maratha youth who sat on indefinite strike at Azad Maidan even though the government is all set to grant the quota to the community.”
The source further added, “The sub-committee headed by the minister for revenue Chandrakant Patil is yet to come to consensus on percentage issue. It may be 10 or 14 per cent. In such situation, Fadnavis wants the Opposition to support the move of the government instead to give wind to the Maratha Kranti Morcha and extend them support to go to the court.” Pawar has taken an aggressive stand over quota issue and continually demanding to table the report. The whole first week and first two days in the second week of the Winter Session washed out due to Maratha quota stir.
“In a such an embarrassed situation for the government, the ACB moved to the High Court and filed an affidavit in the irrigation scam pointing involvement of Ajit Pawar, is not a normal move. You have to connect dots between the affidavit and the aggressiveness of Pawar, to find out the answer,” said Kiran Tare, political observer.
