The BJP and Shiv Sena on Monday announced their Pre-Poll seat-sharing agreement for the upcoming Lok Sabha and state assembly elections in Maharashtra.
BJP President Amit Shah addressed a joint press conference with Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray in Mumbai this evening; Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced that BJP will contest 25 seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. He said Shiv Sena will contest 23 seats in the polls.
After Uttar Pradesh which has 80 seats, Maharashtra is the second biggest state with 48 constituencies after. In the last Lok Sabha polls, the NDA alliance had won 42 seats in Maharashtra.
Mr. Fadnavis, on the assembly elections scheduled later this year, said the seat sharing arrangement will be finalized post discussions with smaller parties that are part of the NDA alliance.
Mr. Fadnavis said the 25-year old coalition of BJP and Shiv Sena has survived despite some ups and down simply because both the parties share the same ideology.
Mr. Fadnavis, called the Mahaghatbandhan a complete farce, and said it was essential that the parties having national interest in mind should come together.
He said, they have discussed constraining issues related to Ram Temple in Ayodhya, farm loan waiver and the issues related to the upliftment of poor and adequate measures will be taken to address them.
