The Madras High Court on Thursday gave permission to erect flex boards from Chennai airport to Mahabalipuram on behalf of the Centre and Tamil Nadu government to welcome Chinese president Xi Jinping. Earlier, the Tamil Nadu government moved to Madras High court seeking permission to erect banners to welcome dignitaries during Prime Minister Narendra Modi-Xi Jinping meet in Mamallapuram near Chennai. The coastal town of Mamallapuram will host the summit between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping later this month.Meanwhile, Kamal Haasan, actor-politician on Wednesday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to put an end to the banner culture that has become common in the state.
In April last year, Modi and Xi Jinping had held multiple meetings in the central Chinese city of Wuhan, as part of an unprecedented two-day informal summit to “solidify” the India-China relationship.
Mamallapuram, also known as Mahabalipuram and located on the scenic East Coast Road about 50 km from here, is home to various ancient monuments and temples.
According to the Kancheepuram district administration website, Mamallapuram is “one of the oldest structural excellence of South India and has been classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.”
