The Ground Run and Low-Speed Taxi Trials (LSTT) of the Hindustan-228 (VT-KNR) aircraft for DGCA (Directorate General of Civil Aviation) ‘Type Certification’ was successfully completed on Monday, said Hindustan Aeronautics Limited.
The Bengaluru-headquartered HAL said in a statement that the event was held as part of India’s 75th Independence Day festivities on Sunday at HAL’s Kanpur facility.
“This is a major milestone for the first fixed-wing Made-in-India civil aircraft in India. It is a step forward towards strengthening regional air connectivity”, said Sajal Prakash, CEO of HAL’s Accessories Complex.
The aircraft meets the most recent FAR 23 certification criteria. The type certification would also allow HAL to get international certification for the aircraft, said DGCA Director Indranil Chakraborty.
Kanpur-based HAL’s Transport Aircraft Division has been in the business of transport and trainer aircraft for defence customers. To assist the Government of India’s Regional Connectivity Scheme (UDAN), the Division has begun producing Hindustan-228 aircraft.
“This aircraft can be effectively utilised by civil operators and state governments for intra- and inter-state connection with seamless assistance for training, maintenance, and logistics,” according to the statement.
