Kerala has confirmed the presence of mosquito-borne Zika virus infection in the State for the very first time.
State Health Minister Veena George informed that the Zika virus infection was confirmed in a 24 year old pregnant woman from the state capital Thiruvananthapuram.
However the health condition of the patient is stable now. She was admitted to the hospital due to various symptoms like fever, headache and red rashes. After primary tests, the samples were sent to National Virology Institute Pune for further examinations.
13 others from Thiruvananthapuram are also suspected to be infected by the Zika virus.. The State Entomology Wing is conducting further studies in the locality. The State Health Minister had alerted all the 14 districts.
