The captain of the victorious Indian cricket team in the 1983 Prudential World Cup cricket tournament, Kapil Dev, has said that the union government should decide whether India should play against Pakistan in the ICC Cricket World Cup in England.
Kapil Dev’s comment follows demands that India sever sporting ties with Pakistan in the wake of the Pakistani terror attack in Pulwama, south Kashmir, on 14 February. This attack killed over 40 CRPF soldiers.
The Indian cricket board, BCCI in a letter to ICC urged it to sever ties with countries supporting terrorism – a clear reference to Pakistan.
The BCCI has concerns about the safety and security of the players and match officials participating in the ICC Cricket World Cup.
