ITBP-run 500-oxygen bed Covid hospital starts operation; know about the admission SOPs

To combat the surge of coronavirus disease in the national capital, the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) has started operating a 500-oxygen bed Covid care hospital in Delhi from today onwards.The facility has been restarted after the Union home ministry issued a statement to re-operationalise the centre which was first build in last year.

India’s primary border patrol organization, Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) as a nodal force has been designated to manage the Sardar Patel CCC (SPCCC) & Hospital at Radha Soami Beas campus in Delhi’s Chhatarpur area.

“ITBP is designated as a nodal force for operation of the SPCCC. ITBP may draw the required medical manpower (doctors and paramedics), if needed, from other central armed police forces (CAPFs) also,” the order from home ministry further informed.

Admission of patients started at Sardar Patel Covid Care Centre, Chhatarpur, New Delhi from 10 AM today. All admissions are being recommended by the District Surveillance Officer (DSO). Laid down protocols of admission are being followed. No walk in admission will be made,” read one of the tweets on the IBTP twitter handle.

Further for admission, patients have to first report at the facility’s reception, after the initial documentation and physical examination, they will be admitted to the Hospital at their allotted bed. After the admission a kit will be provided to them along with medical treatment, medicines, food and other facilities for free of cost. Additionally, services of stress counsellors will also be provided, the border guarding force informed.

The facility was closed on February 23, this year and in total it treated more than 11,657 Covid-19 patients since its operation began last year. Recently the border force also started various other facilities for treatment of its own personnel, from other police forces, CAPFs, their veterans and families.
Meanwhile, extending all possible assistance to the nation in the fight against coronavirus, other defence forces have also been working tirelessly to cater to the needs of COVID-19 patients.

Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs),Ordnance Factory Board (OFB), Navy, IAF, DRDO, Indian Army among others have set-up various state-of-the-art Covid hospitals throughout the nation, ramp up oxygen production and airlifted oxygen container for the COVID-19 relief.
