The Indian School Bahrain(ISB) celebrated Tamil Day at its campus in Isa Town on Monday. The programme was organised by the Department of Tamil marking Thai Pongal, a four-day festival which according to the Tamil calendar is usually celebrated from January 14 to January 17. The program was inaugurated by Guests of Honour ISB Mega Fair General Convener S. Inayadullah (Managing Director of Crown Electro-Mechanical Services ) and S. Sridhar (General Manager of Trafco ) in the presence of ISB Asst.Secretary Premalatha NS, EC Member-Academics Mohammad Khursheed Alam,ISB Mega Fair Patron Mohammed Hussain Malim,Principal VR Palaniswamy,Vice Principals, Headteachers, staff and students.
The programme commenced at 9.30 am with National Anthems, followed by Holy Quran recitation,school prayer and the lighting of the traditional lamp. Sreekanth S (Head Teachers Activities- IX-XII), CM Junith (Head Teacher Activities IV-VIII) and Tamil Teacher Rajeswari coordinated the programme. Guests of Honour S. Inayadullah and S. Sridhar delivered the felicitation speech. Asst.Secretary Premalatha NS spoke about the beauty and the importance of Tamil language in the world and how the festival of Pongal is being celebrated over the years in Tamil Nadu. Students Belsha welcomed the gathering and Dwarka proposed the vote of thanks. Around 80 students were involved in different competitions and around 30 students performed on stage.
Folk dance was presented by the students of Grade IX, Group songs were presented by students of classes VII to IX . Speech contest winners presented their speeches. Earlier students performed the invocation dance.
At the end of the programme, the winners of different competitions- drawings, speech, poem recitation, essay writing and poetry writing in Tamil- were awarded certificates and trophies.
