India’s rivers are severely endangered: Leonardo DiCaprio raises awareness about ‘Cauvery Calling’

Hollywood star and climate activist Leonardo DiCaprio recently extended his support for the ‘Cauvery Calling’ movement. The initiative, aimed at protecting and restoring the Cauvery river – that is the source of livelihood, irrigation and drinking water for 84 million people, is led by Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev and his Isha Foundation.

According to the movement’s website, the river has depleted over 40% in the last 70 years, and 87% of the basin’s original tree cover has been lost.

Shedding light on the importance of the initiative, the ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’ star wrote in a Facebook post, “India’s rivers are severely endangered with many of its smaller rivers vanishing. Join Sadhguru and the Isha Foundation in their fight to preserve the Cauvery river.”

The 44-year-old actor is an active advocate for protecting the environment and endangered wildlife. He recently also took to Instagram to laud teen climate activist Greta Thunberg for her powerful speech at the UN Climate Action Summit in New York.
