Retail inflation, based on the consumer price index (CPI), rose to seven per cent in August this year compared to 6.71 per cent in preceding month. As per the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation data released on Monday, inflation climbed mainly due to rise in prices of “Food & Beverages”.
In August, inflation in the food basket stood at 7.57 per cent, compared to 6.71 per cent in the July this year.
Inflation based on CPI snapped a three-month downward trend this month.
