Indian Railways is playing a vital role in fighting the covid pandemic, the railways have been proactive in supplying essential medical care like Liquid Medical Oxygen through its oxygen express initiative.
Railways have deployed covid care beds in isolation coaches at different stations to help the local administration. Indian Railways has deployed nearly 4,000 isolation coaches with almost 64,000 beds.
The Indian Railways have handed over 191 coaches to various states for Covid care with a bed capacity of 2990 beds. Isolation Coaches are presently used in Delhi, Maharashtra, and Madhya Pradesh.
It also includes 50 coaches in major cities of Uttar Pradesh like Faizabad, Bhadohi, Varanasi, Bareli, and Nazibabad. As per demand, isolation coaches are being shifted from Nandurbar to Palghar and are also being deployed in Jabalpur.
In Delhi, Indian railways have dedicated 50 coaches with 16 beds each at the Shakur Basti station. This has provided 800 beds for isolation. Further, the Indian Railways has provided 25 coaches with 400 beds in Anand Vihar.
22 Coaches with a capacity of 320 beds have been deployed by the Ratlam Division of Western Railway at Tihi station near Indore (Madhya Pradesh). In Bhopal 20 coaches are deployed for isolation of covid patients.
