In Table Tennis, Indian players Ankur Bhattacharjee and Abhinandh Pradhavadhi won the U-19 boys doubles title at the WTT Youth Star Contender in Bangkok yesterday, defeating Korea’s Lee Jungmok and Choi Jiwook 3-1 in the final.
Their journey included a 3-1 win over Australia’s Won Bae and India’s Priyanuj Bhattacharyya in the opening round. In the quarter-finals, they made a strong comeback from 0-2 down to beat Japan’s Kazuki Yoshiyama and Iran’s Benyamin Faraji 3-2.
In singles, Ankur started well with a 3-0 win over Korea’s Lee Seungsoo but lost 0-3 to Japan’s Yoshiyama in the quarter-finals.
In the U-19 girls’ doubles, India’s Syndrela Das and Divyanshi Bhowmick reached the final. They beat strong pairs from China and Korea but lost 1-3 to Thailand’s Wirakarn Tayapitak and Phatsaraphon Wonglakhon in the final. Divyanshi also reached the U-15 girls’ singles final after impressive wins over players from Hong Kong, Japan, and China. She lost 1-3 to Liu Ziling in the final.
In U-15 girls doubles, Riana Bhoota and Ananya Muralidharan finished runners-up, winning their first match 3-0 but falling short in the final.
