Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday reiterated his commitment towards cooperation on climate change and bolstering India’s bilateral relations with Sweden.
The Prime Minister was speaking on the virtual summit with his Swedish counterpart Stefan Löfven, where they discussed bilateral and other regional issues, and spectrum of global concerns.
PM Modi put spotlight on the nation’s achievements in the power sector in the recent years, and said, “India’s renewable power capability has increased by 162% in the last five years.” He added that India was among the only countries in G20 which has stood by its commitment.”
Furthermore, both the leaders underlined the the longstanding close relations between India and Sweden were based on shared values of democracy, rule of law, pluralism, equality, freedom of speech, and respect for human rights. They reaffirmed their strong commitment to work for multilateral-ism, rules-based international order, counter terrorism and peace and se-curity.
The two leaders reviewed the extensive ongoing engagement between India and Sweden, and expressed satisfaction at the implementation of the Joint Action Plan and Joint Innovation Partnership agreed during Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Sweden in 2018.
Prime Minister Modi also welcomed Sweden’s decision to join the International Solar Alliance (ISA). The leaders also noted the growing member-ship of the India-Sweden joint initiative – the Leadership Group on Indus-try Transition (LeadIT) that was launched during the UN Climate Action Summit in September 2019 in New York.
On the front of Covid-19, both the leaders stressted on vaccination drives and the need for vaccine equity by providing urgent and affordable access to vaccines across all nations.
