President Ram Nath Kovind has said India must transform its higher education journey first to thrive economically and socially. He said higher education has the potential to bring about intra-generation changes and mobility.
Mr Kovind was speaking at the 15th FICCI Higher Education Summit, 2019 in New Delhi today. He said India, with a huge infrastructure in higher education, is one of the largest higher education ecosystems in the World. He said steps are being taken constantly to improve the standards of this ecosystem and convert it into a global knowledge hub.
Talking about the new education policy, Mr Kovind said it would pave the way for transforming the Indian education landscape suited for 21st century. Speaking on the occasion, HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank stressed on an amalgamation of innovation with education. He expressed confidence that the new education policy will act as a pillar to achieving the target of 5-trillion dollar economy by 2024.
AIR Correspondent reports that nearly 1500 delegates from academia, government and industry, 350 foreign delegates from 76 countries are attending the three-day-long summit to deliberate upon the role of universities in addressing the challenges of higher education globally.
The summit themed Creative Economy – Nation Building: Higher education as the catalyst, is being jointly organized by Ministry of Human Resource Development and Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry.
