Indian athletes clinched 49 medals comprising 23 golds, 20 silvers and 6 bronzes today in 13th South Asian Games in Kathmandu, Nepal.
On 6th day of games, India is on top with a total of 173 medals including 85 gold, 61 silver and 27 bronze medals, when the reports last came in.
In Men’s shot-put, Tahinderpal Singh won the gold medal by throwing the ball 20.03 metres far setting a new South Asian Games record. India’s Om Prakash won the silver in the event.
In the women’s shot-put, Aba Khatua of India registered gold medal by throwing the ball 15.32 metres far, whereas, Tharika Kumudum of Srilanka scored silver and compatriot Kachina Chaudhary got bronze.
In Badminton, Indian shuttlers claimed eight medals in the individual events.
Ashmita Chaliha and Siril Verma were crowned the men’s and women’s singles champions. While Ashmita and Siril claimed gold medals, Dhruv Kapila bagged double gold after emerging champion in the men’s and mixed doubles category.
Overall, India won four gold, two silver and two bronze medals, besides the two golds in men’s and women’s team events to finish at the top of the badminton medal standings.
In Table Tennis, India made a clean sweep of gold and silver medals. Anthony Amalraj defeated compatriot Harmeet Desai while Sutirtha Mukherjee downed Ayhika Mukherjee to claim the men’s and women’s single’s titles. With seven golds and five silvers, Indian paddlers have now won the maximum medals on offer in the discipline.
