The 4-match Test series between India and England is to be played in the day-night format in the world’s largest stadium ie Motera Cricket Stadium. Kapil Dev, the captain of the World Cup winning team, had the best bowling performance of his career in the first Test match played at this stadium in 1983 itself. Kapil Dev took 9 wickets for 83 runs in the second innings against the West Indies.
Tendulkar’s memorable double century
Master blaster Sachin Tendulkar had scored the first double century of his Test career on this ground. In 1999, he scored 217 runs against New Zealand and scored a double hundred for the first time after 20 centuries.
Laxman’s Test debut
Star batsman of the Indian team VVS Laxman started his Test career on this ground. He played his first Test match of his career against South Africa on 20 November 1996.
India has played a total of 12 Test matches against all teams in Ahmedabad, winning four matches, while losing two matches and drawing six. India have lost two matches against West Indies in 1983 and against South Africa in 2008.
In the final clash between the two teams in 2012, India registered a stunning nine-wicket win against the England team led by Alastair Cook. In this match, Cheteshwar Pujara scored an unbeaten 206 and Virender Sehwag had scored an impressive 117 runs, India declared their innings for 521/8 wickets.
