IMD Predicts Rainfall, Thunderstorms In South-Central India; Dust Storms In Delhi, Heatwave In North

India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued yellow alert warnings for rainfall, thunderstorms and lightning over many parts of the country including Central and Southern regions for the next four days. The IMD said, southwest monsoon has further advanced into some more parts of central Arabian Sea, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Telangana, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and most parts of Bay of Bengal. Light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is expected over Konkan, Goa, Maharashtra, Marathwada, Saurashtra, Kutch, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalaseema, Telangana and Karnataka during the next four days.

Widespread rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is also likely over North East region, West Bengal and Sikkim during the same period. Rainfall and thunderstorms are likely at a few places over Northwest India today. The weather department said that similar conditions are also likely to occur over Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand for the next two to three days.

On heatwave, IMD said that a severe heatwave is likely to prevail over some parts of Uttar Pradesh till Monday. Heat wave conditions are very likely in Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Punjab, Haryana, Bihar and Odisha till the next two to three days. Hot and humid weather is likely to prevail over isolated pockets of Bihar, Jharkhand and Gangetic West Bengal. It further forecasts that the conditions are favourable for further advancement of southwest monsoon into some more parts of some parts of south Chhattisgarh, South Odisha and remaining parts of Bay of Bengal during the next 3-4 days.

Meanwhile, IMD has predicted dust storms and thunderstorms for the next two days in Delhi. The maximum temperature in the national capital is likely to hover around 43 degrees Celsius.
