IMD issues red warning for heatwave in three districts of Odisha

In Odisha, many districts of the state continue to swelter since this morning with the rising mercury showing no signs of a let-up. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red warning for the heat wave conditions in Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, and Kalahandi districts of the state.Heat wave conditions are also being felt in some places over the districts of Sundargarh, Sonepur, Kalahandi, Boudh, and Bolangir as the IMD has issued an orange warning for these districts.The IMD has also issued yellow warning for the districts of Keonjhar, Angul, Dhenkanal, and Mayurbhanj in Odisha. Akashvani correspondent reports, Odisha continues to be under the grip of severe heat wave conditions due to the scorching sun. Four out of the five hottest places in India yesterday were from Odisha, with Boudh topping the list.The major towns of Odisha recorded the highest degrees, all above 40 degrees Celsius. As per IMD reports, Boudh recorded the highest temperature with boiling temperature of 43.6 degree Celsius followed by Jharsuguda 42 degree, Chandrapur 41.6 degree Celsius and Angul 41.1 degree Celsius.With temperatures soaring across the state, the Odisha government is actively considering a shift to morning school timings to protect students from extreme heat wave conditions that have been prevailing for the past couple of days.The School and Mass Education Department has assured that it is well aware of the increasing temperatures and is closely monitoring the situation.Meanwhile, the IMD has advised to take precautionary measures for hot weather while going outside during peak hours of the day till 3 in the afternoon.
