IMD Forecasts Intense Heatwave In East And Northwest India; Heavy Rainfall In Maharashtra And Karnataka

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted intense heatwave conditions over east and northwest India for the next four days. Additionally, extremely heavy rainfall is expected over regions including central Maharashtra, Marathwada, Goa, Konkan, Coastal Karnataka, and north interior Karnataka today.

Red Alerts Issued for Several States

The IMD has issued a red alert for Bihar, East Uttar Pradesh, and West Uttar Pradesh. Bihar is expected to experience heatwave conditions on June 11, east Uttar Pradesh from June 12 to June 14, and west Uttar Pradesh on June 13 and June 14.

There will be no respite from heatwave in Delhi, Haryana, Chandigarh, Punjab, Jammu, Jharkhand, and Odisha over the next four days. Rajasthan will bear the brunt of heatwave from June 12 to June 13. Himachal Pradesh will face hot weather conditions from June 12 to June 14, and Uttarakhand will endure similar conditions from June 11 to June 14. Several parts of West Bengal will also experience heatwave from June 11 to June 13.

Advancement of Southwest Monsoon

According to the IMD, the southwest monsoon has advanced into additional areas of the North Arabian Sea and Maharashtra.Owing to favourable conditions, the monsoon is likely to advance into more regions of the North Arabian Sea, parts of South Gujarat, and additional areas of Maharashtra within the next day.

A cyclonic circulation has been identified over northeast Assam and its nearby areas at lower and middle tropospheric levels. This is likely to result in isolated heavy rainfall over sub-himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh from June 11 to June 14, as per IMD. Furthermore, very heavy isolated rainfall is anticipated over sub-himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, and Meghalaya during this period.
