Home Minister Amit Shah today said the politics of appeasement and vote bank were the reasons for the continuance of the evil practice of triple talaq, for so long. He asserted that a historic wrong has been undone by abolishing triple talaq. Mr. Shah was delivering a public lecture on abolition of Triple Talaq in New Delhi.
He said, Modi government’s decision is not against the Muslims but to benefit them. The Minister said the practice was against Islam and many Islamic countries had stopped it long back. He said it was a hurdle to women empowerment, the country’s development as well as a blot on India’s democracy. Mr. Shah said by ending this evil practice, the NDA government has empowered Muslim women and gave them right of equality.
The Minister attacked Congress and other political parties for opposing the bill abolishing Triple Talaq in Parliament.
