Govt says Fact Check Unit of PIB busted over 11 hundred cases of fake news so far

The government has said that the Fact Check Unit of the Press Information Bureau has busted over 11 hundred cases of fake news so far. This was stated by Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Singh Thakur in a written reply in the Lok Sabha today.

He said the PIB has countered over 37 thousand complaints so far. The government has statutory and institutional mechanisms in place to combat fake news. The Minister said appropriate action is taken by the government and the Press Council in case of violation.
