Govt cancels postal exams following protest in Parliament

The government today cancelled the recent Postal Department Examination conducted for recruitment of postmen and other posts following the protest by the opposition led by AIADMK and DMK in the Rajya Sabha.

The opposition was protesting against the examination conducted on 14th of this month only in English and Hindi.

When the Upper House met after adjournment at 2.32 PM, Communication and IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad made an announcement in this regard saying the examination will now be conducted in all regional languages including in Tamil.

He asserted that the NDA government has respect for regional languages.

Earlier, the Upper House faced repeated adjournments over the issue since morning. The members from AIADMK, DMK, Congress, TMC and Left obstructed the proceedings by trooping into the well and raised slogans over the issue.

Following the Minister’s announcement to cancel the examination, several opposition members lauded the government’s decision.

A Navaneethakrishnan of AIADMK  and DMK thanked the Minister while T K Rangarajan, appreciating the move, said that all Central government department examination should be conducted in the regional languages.

Anand Sharma of Congress said that the government should ensure that such things do not occur and three language formula must be adhered to the  Central government examination in future.   D Raja of CPI and K Keshav Rao of TRS also appreciated the government for cancelling the examination.

Prof Ramgopal Yadav of Samajwadi Party raised the issue of inclusion of Bhojpuri language in the eighth schedule which was supported by RJD members and others.
