Former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Virbhadra Singh passed away today after prolonged illness. Virbhadra Singh died at the Indira Gandhi medical college Shimla in wee hours today due to multi-organ failure. 87 year old Veerbhdra Singh is the longest-serving chief minister of Himachal Pradesh.
The 87 year-old veteran Congress leader was currently the MLA from Arki in Solan district.Nine-time MLA and five-time MP, Singh was Himachal Pradesh’s chief minister for six terms.
It may be recalled that earlier Virbhadra had been admitted to Max Hospital at Mohali after he tested positive for Covid on April 12.After recovering and being discharged from the hospital, his health again deteriorated and he was being treated at IGMC Shimla, where he breathed his last.
President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have expressed grief on the demise of former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister and Former Union Minister Virbhadra Singh.
In a tweet, President Ram Nath Kovind said, his political career spanning six decades in his roles as Chief Minister and Parliamentarian was marked by his commitment to serve people of Himachal Pradesh. He expressed condolences to family and followers of Virbhadra Singh.
In a tweet, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, Virbhadra Singh Ji had a long political career, with rich administrative and legislative experience. Mr Modi said, he played a pivotal role in Himachal Pradesh and served the people of the state. The Prime Minister expressed condolences to his family and supporters.
