ED seeks SC nod to transfer officials probing coal scam

New Delhi: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday approached the Supreme Court seeking permission to transfer 42 officials probing the coal block allocation cases.

The top court has barred transfer of officers of all agencies investigating the coal scam cases, without its prior permission.

The ED on Wednesday told a bench, headed by Justice N.V. Ramana, that the deputation tenures of these officials with the agencies were over. The bench said Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi will decide on listing the matter for a hearing.

The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) has estimated a loss of Rs 1.86 lakh crore to the exchequer in the controversial allocation of coal blocks by the government.
