Dubai’s basic health insurance plan will reportedly cover mental health and alternative medicine treatments such as Ayurveda and homeopathy.
The Dubai Health Authority (DHA) has upgraded the health insurance scheme in the Emirate. The new mandates and requirements are to be included in the essential benefits plan issued in Dubai.
According to the revised plan, the basic health cover in the country will now include mental health and psychiatry, Ayurveda and homeopathy. These were not covered in basic insurance cover–Essential Benefits Plan (EBP), which is availed of by low-income workers with salary of up to dirham 4,000.
The scheme is expected to come into effect two months from the date of issuance of the circular. According to the circular, psychiatry and mental health inpatient, outpatient, and emergency coverage will be up to dirham 10,000 per annum, with outpatient to get 20% coinsurance payable by the insured per visit.
Alternative medicine cover for homeopathy and Ayurveda is up to dirham 2,500 yearly with 20% coinsurance payable by insured for outpatient per visit, as per the circular.
The Essential Benefits Plan or EBP is the minimal level of health insurance cover that residents of Dubai are required to meet or exceed under Dubai law.
