Minister of State in Prime Minister’s Office Dr. Jitendra Singh today hailed the Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Aarogya Yojana as a unique and successful health insurance scheme.
Addressing the Asia Health-2019 conference in New Delhi, Dr Singh said, over 50 lakh people have been benefited from this scheme and the government is taking health-care protection to a new aspirational level. He said, it is the world’s largest government funded health-care programme targeting more than 50 crore beneficiaries.
Dr Singh suggested that in a heterogeneous and dynamic nation like India the fundamental priorities need to be considered while determining the spectrum of health care and disease. He said, India can not copy the West or other countries of the world in this connection. The Minister said, though India needs qualitative and quantitative changes in the health care sector. Dr Singh also emphasized on the importance of human interface in the health care sector.
