Dharma, Vedas, Upanishads, Shastras – are often left to the realm of the ‘personal’ and then to family poojas and discourses largely attended by the pious. For many years Dharma – that which upholds (dharayate iti dharma) the worldly and societal conduct was marginalised in public and political discourse. Recent years have shown a renewed consciousness and affirmation of sanatana dharma. This has created a curiosity to learn more. However common citizens who want to understand the body of knowledge are left chasing sanskrit scholars, complex to understand books and institutions that are difficult to access. In this era of digitisation how nice it would be if there is a main source which can provide answers regarding dharmic knowledge ‘as it is’ rather than coloured with opinions and perspectives. The source akin to a Wikipedia where enthusiasts can contribute to building the body of knowledge, yet the content is always screened and validated by experts.
Our premier institution, IIT-B known for nurturing young technological minds – has launched a unique knowledge source ‘Dharma wiki’ – which is a confluence of dharmic knowledge, collaboration and technology. Dr Ganesh Ramakrishnan and Dr Ashish Pandey and their team of scholars are the architects of Dharmawiki.
