Delhi: DDMA makes wearing of masks mandatory

In view of the rise in COVID-19 cases in the national capital, Delhi Disaster Management Authority, DDMA has made wearing of masks mandatory. The DDMA in its meeting held yesterday has decided that a fine of 500 rupees will be imposed for not wearing of masks in public areas. The meeting was chaired by Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal which was attended by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia among others.

Earlier, the Authority had done away with the penalty for not wearing of masks in the city. Sources said that the DDMA also decided not to close schools at the moment and instead it will come up with Standard Operating Procedures – SOPs in consultation with experts. During the meeting, it was emphasised that in consultation with experts SoPs for prevention and management of COVID-19 should be laid down for schools and their strict enforcement by school management should be ensured.

Besides, in the larger interest of students, in case of non-compliance or violation of SOPs penalty as deemed appropriate should be imposed for creating a deterrent effect. Delhi LG has advised all the agencies to remain vigilant and work in coordination to tackle the situation as it emerges.
