COVID-19: Tamil Nadu shuts down check posts along Kerala border

Palakkad: In view of the increasing number of coronavirus cases in the country, the Tamil Nadu government has decided to close down all its check posts along the Kerala border.

As part of the move, Tamil Nadu will close down all 9 check posts in the Kerala-Coimbatore border by Friday night. Emergency vehicles will be allowed to pass through Walayar check post.

Although Coimbatore is yet to register a COVID-19 case, the move is to prevent the spread of coronavirus from Kerala.

Tamil Nadu has intensified inspections along the Kerala border with the help of health officials. At present all vehicles are inspected and sanitised before entering Tamil Nadu. However, this will be stopped from 6 pm on Friday.

The order to shut down check posts was announced by the Coimbatore district collector. The order directs the Revenue, Police and Transport departments to jointly inspect vehicles and send them back.

Earlier, the Tamil Nadu police had intensified inspections at Aryankavu check post in Kollam district.
