Kochi: Following the lockdown over coronavirus outbreak, production of over 45 movies has come to a standstill. According to the producers, Rs 650 crore was invested in these movies which are shelved due to the pandemic.
Shooting and pre-production works of these movies are postponed for an indefinite period after the lockdown came into force.
As per the present circumstances, it would take atleast two months for the release of these movies. This will also affect the release of the movies which have already postponed the release date.
Mohanlal starrer ‘Marakkar-Arabikadalinte Simham’ produced at a budget of Rs 100 cr is among the big budget movie that got postponed. Mammootty’s ‘One’, Fahad Faasil’s ‘Malik’ and Tovino starrer ‘Kilometres and Kilometres’ were the movies which were scheduled to be released in March and April. But release of these movies was not possible amid the lockdown.
Asif Ali starrer ‘Kunjeldho’, Dileep’s ‘Keshu Ee Veedinte Nathan’ and Kunchacko Boban’s ‘Mohankumar Fans’ also faced a setback following the COVID-19 outbreak. The makers announced that these movies will be released for Vishu. But, they were forced to postpone the release.
Vishu and Easter seasons were regarded as the profitable period for the film industry. But this time, like every other industry, the coronavirus outbreak affected the film industry also.
Lockdown in Gulf countries also affected Mollywood as more than 30 percent of the collection was received from here.
